26th November 2016 - TKO win v Gabor Gorbics

Next Welsh star

British and Commonwealth Super-Welterweight champion Liam Williams is undefeated in 17 professional fights and is ready to make the step up to World level.

Raised in Clydach Vale, Wales, the 24-year-old has a bright future ahead of him under the guidance of Frank Warren, who has previously worked with Welsh greats like two-weight World Champion Joe Calzaghe, Colin Jones and Enzo Maccarinelli.

Climb to the top

In November 2014, he picked up his first major title when beating Michael Lomax to become Commonwealth Champion with a first-round TKO. Williams followed this up 13 months later with an impressive win over Kris Carslaw to lift the vacant British Title.

'The Machine' made the first defence of his new belt at the Ice Arena in Cardiff in a fiery clash with Gary Corcoran. There was plenty of pre-fight animosity between the pair and this produced an exciting contest where Wiliams earned a thrilling 11th-round stoppage.

WBO European Champ

After a proposed bout with Ahmet Patterson fell through, tough Hungarian Gabor Gorbics was brought in as a late replacement and proved to be a game challenger for the vacant WBO European Super-Welter strap.

Gorbics made a competitive start but Williams eventually halted his opponent in the middle stages with a huge body shot to please the raucous Welsh crowd.

With the win, he extended Welsh boxing’s longest active unbeaten run to 17 fights and Williams is eyeing a World Title shot in 2017.
